My son is already demanding. When he gets hungry, I'd better have a bottle ready because he'll grab root and growl at anything and everyone until he gets it! I got a strange sense of pleasure when my sil held him today - he was nice to her, but had this perplexed look on his face the whole time, as if he were wondering how he got there and where was mom? She is great with babies, but my lil' Ian know who his momma is! The minute I took him back, his eyes lit up and that look of momma wonder came over him. Cool. All for me. Better enjoy it while it lasts! He had a nice 2 hour waking period this afternoon, so I am hoping he'll mostly sleep through the night, aside from a feeding or two. Last night, he was up from 2:30am to 4am. Nice to have him all to myself in a quiet house, etc, but tough to keep my eyes focusing. LOL. I finally put him in the swing and off he went. What a sweetheart.

The good news . . .
Ian's billirubin levels went way down to around 10, so no more lights!
The bad news . . .
Ian has glue spots on his temples that won't come off. (From the velcro used to hold eye protection on during treatment.)
The good news . . .
Ian's collar bone didn't get broken during labor last week.
The bad news . . .
Ian's humerous is broken. My poor sweet baby.
The good news . . .
Doctor says his arm will heal up pretty fast, probably with no nerve damage.
The bad news . . .
Ian goes for his circumcision on Monday. |:-(
The good news . . .
Baby x-rays are cute.
The bad news . . .
Cute baby xrays that show broken bones make moms cry. Sniffle.
The good news . . .
I wasn't the only one who missed a broken arm on a baby for almost a week. (Obgyn, pediatrician, nurses, physician's assistant, mom.)
The bad news . . .
I wasn't the only one who missed a broken arm on a baby for almost a week. (Obgyn, pediatrician, nurses, physician's assistant, mom.)
The good news . . .
God can make all things beautiful in His time.

Today's blood test showed the billirubin at 13.3 so that's good. We have to go one more night and hopefully get down below a 12. Seems likely. This has been really hard because we just got hit with a heat wave - 104 today and we only have a swamp cooler for the house. So, to prevent my little sweetie from dehydrating, we took him off the lights and holed up in the bedroom that has a/c. (Couldn't take the lights in - no 3 pronged plates.)
On a really strange note - I didn't mention, did I? that Ian's right clavicle was broken during birth? Well, it hasn't been a problem but all of a sudden tonight Ian is favoring his right arm and cries if you touch his shoulder. Try picking up a baby with out touching his shoulder - not impossible, but pretty hard. I gave him a tiny bit of infant's tylenol and he is sleeping well right now. If he continues to be in such discomfort, I'll of course call the md in the am, and also see if I can find something to make a sling with. Not sure how a sling will work if the patient is lying down? Hmmm . . . we'll see. Poor baby. Breaks my heart to see him in discomfort. He is such a sweet baby and is trying so hard. I'll post later about what the md says in the am.

Well, my little baby went yellow! Bummer. Billirubin (sp?) blood tests showed him slightly elevated, so we had to have lights delivered. There he sits, looking like a sun worshipper underneath the lights with his eye goggles on! LOL! I am hoping this won't last long - it's hard to get him to sleep like that. The nice lady will be back in the morning to retest him - let's hope to see a significant drop from the marginal 15.9 to something closer to 10, eh?

It has been too long since I have posted to this blog. I hope to have a whole set up in a few days. Until then, here is the announcement page.
Baby Ian was born right on schedule - just not ours! LOL! We think we know so much and found out once again that we are just along for the ride and God is in control! We thought we were inducing early. We thought there might be a c-section - due to a breech and large baby. Well, I went into labor (same as with the last child) on the way in to the hospital to be induced a nearly a week "early". Then, I stayed at .5 to 1 cm all night - Doctor said it would be a long time before we had the baby. Still, though, my water broke at 11 am the next day, and I progressed from 1 or 3 (can't remember clearly) cm to fully delivered by 3:30pm! Barely in time for the epidural!
Ian was adorable, of course, and well worth the effort. He has been quite wonderful to have around for the last 5 days. The kids are learning to love and care for him, each in their own ways. I suspect he will be a little "spoiled" - some would say well-loved - from the extra attention! Gotta run - I'll say more later.
